Eastern Overall Company Solves Industrial Laundry Wastewater Problems
Problem:
Waste line stoppage and discharge of solid waste into the sewer system, a couple of real problems for industrial laundries, were plaguing Eastern Overall Company of Baltimore. Accumulations of lint from handling overalls, wiping rags, floor mats, etc., were building up in pipe interiors and fittings and causing stoppages.
The result was costly downtime and expensive line-cleaning operations. In addition to this headache, municipal officials instructed Eastern Overall to eliminate solids prior to discharge to the sewer lines because of their detrimental effect on wastewater treatment.
Solution:
Eastern solved these problems by installing a Sweco separator to screen the lint from the laundry wastewater prior to discharge into the municipal sewer lines.
The Sweco separator operates in conjunction with a receiving or "drop tank.". The wash wheel is stored in this tank after the wheel is dumped. Then, on demand, it is pumped through a heat reclaimer and ultimately discharged to the screen through a liquid feeder at a rate estimated to be 200 to 300 gpm maximum.
The single 48 inch diameter Sweco separator, when equipped with a 60-mesh market grade screen, delivers the lint to a 55 gallon drum and discharges screened wastewater to the sewer.
Comments:
Since installation of the Sweco separator, Eastern Overall has had no further stoppages in wastewater lines and no further complaints from the city on the discharge of solids into the sewer lines.
