Chocolate Purity Improves Ten Fold With Low Profile Sweco Separator

FLORENCE, KY - Sweco recently announced the installation of a Low Profile Separator at contract and private-label candy manufacturer Warrell Corporation. The new Sweco separator helps solve one of the biggest problems in coating any candy with chocolate - removing contaminants that build up as the chocolate recirculates.
The process of coating candy with chocolate is referred to as "enrobing" and during the process excess chocolate is recirculated and reused. A natural occurrence on the enrobing line is that salt, and chips of nuts, nougat and other sweets being coated fall back into the chocolate. The In-line Low Profile Sweco Separator reduces those contaminants with extraordinary results.
According to Warrell's Camp Hill Pennsylvania Plant Manager, Jeff Hahn, "The Sweco separator does such a good job of improving the purity of chocolate on our enrobing line that we have been able to reduce our down-time, increase productivity, and cut the wear and tear on our pumps and nozzles".
Recirculating chocolate at Warrell used to flow through a basket strainer with 1/16" holes. With the Sweco Low Profile Separator, the chocolate now passes through a 20-mesh screen where more than ten times the previous amount of contaminants are now removed. An added benefit is the elimination of bubbles in the chocolate, a recurring problem with the old basket screening method that degrades the finish of chocolate candies.
Since the separator was installed in-line, there was no need for the tanks and piping required with other systems, which reduced the installation cost by 25%. The compactness of the Sweco Low Profile Separator also enabled Warrell to fit the unit in a height-restricted area.
