| Although Sweco Round and Rectangular Separators have been a mainstay for this industry in the past, Sweco now offers more for the Minerals Industry than ever before. The GyraMax Gyratory Sifter has become a must have for mineral processors for applications such as silica and calcium carbonate. Additionally, Ecutec fine and ultrafine air classification and grinding equipment can take such applications as calcite and dolomite down as far as 1 micron. |

APPLICATION 1: Producers of commercial grade uniform plaster and paint aggregate use raw, crushed perlite ore from the mines. The expanded material is air separated, and companies wished to grade the fines from the air separation. After disappointing experiences with several conventional screens, Sweco installed a standard production-size round separator. Demands for fine aggregate of this grade are apt to change radically with building styles and finishes. The versatility of the Sweco Separator makes it relatively easy to consistently meet such changing demands.
APPLICATION 2: Manufacturers of wall plaster from mortar cement for use in the construction industry start the process by extracting a certain particle size range from limestone. In a typical process, a crusher reduces raw limestone to granules. The material is then fed to one or more Sweco GyraMax Gyratory Sifters for classification of the limestone. Most producers in this industry will utilize a GyraMax unit over standard round or rectangular separators due to the capacity requirements and the gentle sifting motion produced by the GyraMax.
APPLICATION 3: Petroleum coke by-product is derived from oil cracking processes in refineries. Although it is not pure carbon, the coke can be used to replace carbon as fuel. During the process petroleum coke is dried, milled and classified. This final product has to meet certain fineness demands in order to make it suitable to use with injection valves. In this case the petroleum coke is a very inexpensive fuel used to fire calcining furnaces. The customer had an existing drying, milling and classifying plant for this product with an air classifier located directly over a hammer mill. As demands on the final product quality with respect to the cut-point fineness have risen, the existing classifier could no longer meet those demands. Sweco/Ecutec managed to grant a stable production of fines at d90<90µm with a fines recovery efficiency of more than 95%. Sweco/Ecutec engineered a new steel structure and was able to implement the classifier into the existing plant without forcing the customer to move any of the existing machinery.
